Preferred Mechanical, working along with Wright Ryan Construction, installed the ice surface and refrigeration equipment at the new Allwell Center at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH. The refrigeration equipment is low temperature water to water heat pumps called Ice Kubes. Heat reclamation is integrated into an atypical third floor called a "buffer floor", making this one of the most efficient ice rink installations we have performed. Furthermore, any heat that does have to be rejected goes into multiple vertical boreholes located underneath the parking lot. This reduces power consumption by eliminating typical fluid coolers or cooling towers which need to power large spray pumps and fans to properly operate. There is also no outdoor refrigeration components which reduces overall maintenance and peripheral freeze risks or operating worries from the facilities personnel.
